All registered users of the InspiringSTEM Network are encouraged to contribute posts to the platform to share their knowledge, ideas and opinions. While selected experts, writers and contributors may post into the themed channels or rooms on the Network, others registered on the site can post to their profile page and their new posts will also appear in the ‘Latest Content' channel on the homepage.

The following provides guidance on creating posts but please do also ask our Managing Editor:

Relevance

The InspiringSTEM Network's mission is to establish a trusted, peer-to-peer, independent and free-to-access international, multidisciplinary knowledge exchange. It is intended for STEM organisations and institutional stakeholders ranging from universities, governments and school heads to funders to industry and service providers.

Value

The value will be generated through the engagement with both content and Network members. If you are considering contributing content it should provide some or all of the following:

    • insights
    • recommendations
    • shared resources
    • opinion
    • analysis
    • updates
    • news
    • education

Reuse of existing content

Importantly, the InspiringSTEM Network encourages the reposting of existing relevant content from other sources, but content which clearly subject to the following Creative Commons Licences:

  • CC BY 3.0 (Attribution 3.0 Unported)
  • CC BY 4.0 (Attribution 4.0 International)
  • CC BY-SA 4.0 (Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International)
  • CC BY-ND 4.0 (Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International)
  • CC0 (No Rights Reserved)

Creation of new content

The InspiringSTEM Network community supports a well-prepared post that is interesting and easy to read. Organise your thoughts and content logically to help others readily understand your message, and check the final text carefully.

Aim for a post between 250 and 1000 words to provide substantive value but to suit a community site.

Images are important to us and we ask that you use but only after confirming that you not infringing copyright. Upload a suitable ‘poster image’ for your post to attract readers, and consider inserting images and video into the post itself for extra interest and understanding.

Click here for recommended sites providing high quality images and all under a Creative Commons Zero (CC0) license. This means the pictures are completely free to be used for any legal purpose.

Final checks

Finally, review the ‘How to publish posts’ guide and Community Policy Guidelines before publishing to the site.

In summary please:

    • keep it relevant to the Network topics
    • aim to add value to your community
    • keep it short but meaningful, that is 250–1000 words
    • add a poster image to attract attention
