The Gatsby Foundation
An endowed grant-making trust, based in London, founded by David Sainsbury in 1967
The Gatsby Foundation is committed to strengthening the UK’s science and engineering skills. Its focus is technical education and it has two motivations for that. Firstly, by focusing on the shortage of technicians in the workforce, it will tackle a critical factor in improving the UK’s productivity and growth. Secondly, technical education and technical careers open up a world of opportunities for people who have been poorly served by the UK’s education system.
Today its efforts are broadly concentrated around four Focus Areas:
- Technical Education Reform
- STEM Skills in the Workforce
- Good career guidance
- Science and maths in schools
